The Story of Muchas & Poquitos

During the last 16 years, Muchas & Poquitos have insisted on touching everything in my life, covering the walls, canvases, “found” objects, and a hundred pieces of paper with their images and imagination. The more I listened to Muchas & Poquitos, a “truth” began to appear, and my heart followed. I think they knew that I needed them, so they each appeared at a different time in my life, but the right time.

One day, I asked Muchas where they came from. With bright eyes and a big smile, Muchas pointed to the night sky and said, “Look! Do you see those shimmering lights? That’s what we are…stars! The day we decided to come down to Earth, we shot from the sky, and, next thing you know, we landed on a piece of paper!”

Puzzled, I asked Muchas, “But how did you survive if you fell from the sky?”

“Here’s a secret: When we decide to fall from the sky, we fall in pairs because then we can hug each other tight, and it feels safe! We have each other, and it’s the love we share that helps us to survive the fall. So when we hit the ground, it’s like landing on a cloud.”

“Wow, that’s really neat! But how come Poquitos didn’t fall with you?”

In a soft, little voice, Poquitos replied, “Oh, Muchas and I did fall together, but when we reached Earth, I wandered off by accident! I was so amazed and in love with the colorful flowers, growing green grass, smells, sights, that I got lost in it! I wasn’t too worried. I knew I would meet up with Muchas again. And sure enough, I found you both!”

“Was I a star too?” I asked.

“Yes!” Muchas went on to tell me that every day and night, there are millions of stars falling and landing all over the world.

“Wow,” I said. “That’s a lot of stars! The Earth must look really bright and shiny from above!”

Poquitos looked at me and said, “Sometimes the Earth looks bright, and then other times there are grey spots. Muchas and I wanted to travel to those places so we can connect with people and let them know that they are stars…and to shine! That’s where you come in.”

“We are imaginary, but you can see us. We want you to draw us, so we can reach the grey spots!”

I am thankful Muchas & Poquitos appeared in my life, and I will continue to be a student of theirs. Not only have they taught me about myself, but I’ve also learned about the world and my place in it. Muchas & Poquitos tell me that it is important to love who you are, everything about yourself because that is the greatest gift you can give to the world! Everything, big and small, is part of a greater whole. We all came from love.
